Get more productivity out of your one-minute mindfulness

quotes about health and fitness

A typical person doesn't have 20 minutes of meditation time per day. You can increase productivity by setting a timer. One effective way to do so is to set a phone alarm for 60 seconds. This will remind your brain to focus on your breathing and stop thinking. It is an effective way to keep your eyes on the task at hand.

Wildflowers' study looked at the impact of a meditation app and cognitive training. The app lets users select their top meditation goals, and then suggests meditative experiences to help them reach those goals. The home page of the app features realistic animations of mountains, rippled water, and bird/nature sounds. Although the goal-directed mediations are clear and easy to remember, they do not prove conclusive. You can make your mindfulness experience more enjoyable by switching to an app that tracks your daily activities.

What does the meaning of "vitamin?"

Vitamins are organic compounds that can be found in foods. Vitamins aid us in absorbing nutrients from the food we eat. Vitamins are not made by the body, so they must be obtained through food.

There are two types: water-soluble and fat-soluble vitamins. Water-soluble vitamins dissolve quickly in water. You can find vitamin C,B1 or thiamine, B2 or riboflavin and B3 or niacin, B3/niacin, B6/pyridoxine, folic Acid, biotin and pantothenic Acid as examples. Fat-soluble vitamins can be stored in the liver or in fatty tissue. Examples include vitamin D, E, K, A, and beta carotene.

Vitamins are classified according to their biological activity. There are eight major vitamin groups:

  • A - Essential for healthy growth and health maintenance.
  • C – essential for proper nerve function.
  • D - necessary for healthy bones and teeth.
  • E - Required for good vision & reproduction
  • K - required for healthy muscles and nerves.
  • P - essential for strong bones, teeth and tendons
  • Q - Aids in digestion and absorption.
  • R is required for the production of red blood cells.

The recommended daily allowance for vitamins (RDA) varies based on gender, age, and physical conditions. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, (FDA), sets the RDA value.

For adults aged 19 and older, the RDA for vitamin B is 400 micrograms daily. For fetal development, pregnant women need 600 mg per day. Children ages 1-8 require 900 micrograms per day. Babies under one-year old require 700 mg per day. Between 9 and 12 years of age, however, this drops to 500 mg per day.

Children aged between 1-18 years require 800 micrograms of sugar per day, while overweight children need 1000 micrograms. Children who are underweight receive 1200 micrograms every day to meet their nutritional requirements.

Children ages 4-8 years who have been diagnosed with anemia need 2200 micrograms per day of vitamin C.

Adults over 50 years of age need 2000 micrograms per day for general health. Because of their higher nutrient needs, women who are pregnant or nursing need 3000 mg per day.

Adults over 70 require 1500 micrograms each day, since they lose around 10% of their muscle mass every decade.

Women who have been pregnant or are lactating require more than the RDA. Pregnant and breastfeeding women require 4000 micrograms each day during pregnancy and 2500 Micrograms each day after delivery. Breastfeeding moms need 5000 micrograms each day when breastmilk production occurs.
